In 1998, the museum at Elmira was called the National Warplane Museum. The rights to that name was taken over by the current museum at Geneseo, NY in 2010. The collection is now known as the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center. This airframe later moved to the Hixon Flight Museum in Rome, GA.

The BTD-1 Destroyer had excellent performance and was intended as the successor to the Helldiver. However, the type arrived too late to see any action in WWII with '4959' being the only survivor of the 30 (26 BTD-1s) built. This aircraft had long been in the Florence Air & Missile Museum collection and then moved to the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center, Elmira-Corning Regional Airport, Elmira, New York. It is currently undergoing restoration at the Hixson Flight Museum in Rome, Georgia. Alas much to my great disappointment she still had her winter tarps on as my visit was so early in the season.
