Painted to represent MH424 "H-53", now restored to fly as G-IRTY "The Silver Spitfire"

Awaiting restoration and return to flying condition; this would become the silver Spitfire G-IRTY.

The 'Silver Spitfire' IX MJ271 was stripped down of all armament, and all WWII camouflage for a multi point stop flight (74) to 30+ regions around the World called 'The Longest Flight', now the Spitfire Expedition. Original idea Matt Jones & Steve Brooks owners of 'Boultbee Flight Academy' /'Spitfire.Com' based Goodwood UK, to circum navigate the World in a Spitfire for many who had never seen a Spitfire, to be able to do so. Departing 5th August 2019 from Goodwood Aerodrome, 75th anniversary of D-Day, returning four months later. Silver Spitfire, today operated by ANPARTSSELSK, Denmark.

11th July 2019, Silver Spitfire LF IX Girty returns to Duxford after 4 hour proving flight. MJ271 stripped of all armaments and military markings or colour schemes, to ensure the Longest Flight Spitfire would be permitted in all 90 destinations around the globe, as Girty civilianised Spitfire in polished Silver.

Ex. MJ721, flown from February 1944 until December 1944, when it was grounded due to structural failures of the frame. Initially stored, it became a museum object in January 1959 and became derelict for a long time. To prevent further decay, the decision was made to restore it. This was completed in January and the aircraft was put on display as 'MH424' at the Aviodome. Sold in the summer of 2006, with the intention to make her airworthy again. This was a success and we now know the aircraft as G-IRTY, the Silver Spitfire that flew around the world in 2019. Photo from W. Muntinga

Previously preserved at the Aviodrome Museum in Holland but recently sold and moved to Duxford for restoration to flying condition

This aircraft is actually H-8/MJ271. It is seen displayed in the Aviodrome Museum at Lelystad.
