Taken at an undisclosed location in the Middle East, this EC-27J of the Aeronautica Militare was deployed in the fight against ISIS over Iraq and Syria. The EC-27J jamming and electronic defence instrumentation (JEDI) has been compared to the capabilities of the USAF's EC-130H Compass Call. The JEDI is able to disrupt radio communication and remote detonators often employed for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Outside, the EC-27J is not different to other C-27Js, but a container inside the cargo compartment and the blad antenna below the tail section makes the difference .
