One of four KLM Fokker F.XIIs sold to Crilly Airways, probably seen before delivery. Leo Crilly had big ambitions for his small company from Leicester, moving to Croydon as you can see. A service to Lisbon reportedly started on 1 February 1936, but soon newly formed British Airways was using the F.XIIs on its Paris route from the new Gatwick airport. By July they had been sold to the Spanish Nationalists. Two crashed on the way to Spain but this airframe did serve in the Civil War. Also note the Lufthansa Junkers F24, D-UMUR. The former G24 trimotor has been converted to a single-engined aircraft and named Österreich (Austria), an entity that ceased to exist two years later. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)
