This Waco arrived with F19, the Swedish volunteer squadron in Finland during the Winter War, on this day. The photo is assumed taken at the unit's main base which was on Ajos Island, with the runways on the frozen sea arm. Formerly a DQC-6, NC16515. To Sweden late in 1938 as SE-AHM, owner Kurt Björkvall naming it Imbrim after the trawler which rescued him when he ditched in the Atlantic in Bellanca SE-AFG. After the Winter War the Waco formally joined the Swedish air force as a Tp8A, s/n 914, wearing SE-AHM in 1944 pictures. Ditched into the Baltic on 8 August 1948 and sank. Flown by noted former barnstorming pilot Duke Krantz, the 'news plane' came to Harbour Grace to cover the story of NR13770 Lady Peace. The DC-2, NC13731, delivered spare parts for the stranded Vultee. NC16515 was sold to Sweden in 1938 as SE-AHM and flew in Finland in 1940 during the Winter War, as OH-SLA.
