Photo taken during the first flight from Egypt to India. It appears to be in what is now Pakistan, probably Karachi, although the flight continued on to Kolkata. It had been intended for an O/400 to fly from the UK to India but the initial aircraft went u/s at Heliopolis. It was then planned to fly on to Australia - the pilot was Australian Ross Smith - in 1919. However, while Smith headed off to survey a route, C9700 was commandeered by the military in India to bomb Kabul. It was wrecked in a wind storm at Risalpur before Smith returned.
