This unique single seat B-17 replica was christened Obsession but is better know in aviation circles as the Bally Bomber. Designed and built by carpenter and homebuilder Jack Bally over 17 years, the aircraft first flew (accidentally when a gust of wind caused it to become airborne during taxi testing) in 2016.

Almost unbelievably this is a single seat 1/3 scale B-17 though I initially thought that it was simply a very large radio controlled aircraft. Built by Jack Bally it took 17 years and an estimated 40,000 man-hours to build. It was designed from scaled-up plans for a 1/9 scale radio controlled model aircraft. Unfortunately, I did not see it fly.
