Most airlines would not even consider reusing the registration of a crashed airplane. B-1816 was first used on a A300-600 by China Airlines of Taiwan, it was delivered in February 1991 and crashed on landing in Nagoya in April 1994. Air China again used B-1816 on this A321 that was delivered to them in March of 2014. Maybe in China you don't have the choice.
