Most airlines would not even consider reusing the registration of a crashed airplane. B-1816 was first used on a A300-600 by China Airlines of Taiwan, it was delivered in February 1991 and crashed on landing in Nagoya in April 1994. Air China again used B-1816 on this A321 that was delivered to them in March of 2014. Maybe in China you don't have the choice.

Delivered new 28th Jan 1991. China Airlines, flight CI140 departed RCTP for RJNA and during the appraoch the f/o inadvertently selected TOGA (go-around) mode and as the crew did not realise they tried to manually continue the approach but the aircraft stalled and crashed from 1800ft onto the runway and burst into flames. 7 out of 256 pax survived, all 15 crew died. 26th Apr 1994
