Delivered to CAAC as B-2444 in 1980. Transferred to Air China in 1988. Reregistered as B-2438 in 1992 as the Chinese consider the number 4 to be unlucky. Sold as N136SW in 1999 and stored at Victorville, CA. Last flight to Plattsburgh, NY in 2001 and parted out. Remains scrapped in 2006.

The 747SP was the first wide-body for state owned CAAC. This is the second one (of six) , delivered June 26, 1980. By the time of the photo, the overseas airline division of CAAC had become Air China, but this aircraft had yet to get the new titles and tail logo. Re-registered B-2438 in 1992, it was sold to UT Finance December 1999 and parked at Victorville, CA. The airplane was ferried to Plattsburgh, NY on June 07, 2001 where is was gradually scrapped.
