Seen preserved at the National Museum of Flight in East Fortune near Edinburgh, Scotland. Built by Scottish Aviation and delivered to the RAF as XM961 on 14 Jan 1959. To Halton for ground instruction as 7978M on 28 Jul 1967. To the UK civil register with Flight One Ltd on 17 Dec 1974 as G-BBVF. DBR on 11 Mar 1982. Now preserved at East Fortune.

This Twin Pioneer CC.1 served the RAF as XM961 between 1959 and 1967 with 230 Sqdn at Benson and 21 Sqdn in the Far East. It was then moved to Halton for use by No 1 School of Technical Training and allocated 7978M. In 1973 it became one of eight acquired by Flight One of Staverton. They had experience of maintaining JF Airlines' fleet of this type and when Kemps Aerial Surveys stopped flying in 1972, their Ordnance Survey contract was awarded to Flight One, who converted several Twin Pins for this work. Dbr in 1982 when struck by another aircraft in a gale and moved to the museum.

I worked on this aircraft when it belonged to the RAF (7978M/XM961) in my apprentice days (69 - 71). This aircraft can fly backwards in a strong wind by dropping its large flaps and leading edge slats. It also has no problems with tricky crosswinds; it lands across the runway.

A training machine at No 1 School of Technical Training used for engine ground running by apprentices (me included). It is ex XM961 of the Short Range Conversion Unit, RAF Odiham and still exists today as G-BBVF at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune in Scotland.
