The Elster was the first powered aircraft to be built in Germany in significant numbers after the Second World War . Built by Alfons Putzer KG in Bonn, the prototype made its first flight from Hangelar airfield on November 11th 1957. Early examples were powered by Porsche engines and since 2010 D-ELKY has been owned and flown by the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

Ex Spanish AF Hispano HA-1112M1L C.4K-135 c/n195 rebuilt by Messerschmitt AG and first flown in April 1982. Crashed on take off from Neuburg in June 1983 and restored again using fuselage of Buchon c/n156 ex C.4K-87. Mechanical damage sustained in 2002 led to further work and the aircraft was flown again shortly before this appearance at Hahnweide. Retired from flying in 2007, the aircraft was restored to fly again by Hangar 10 at Usedom in 2019/20 and now flies with the Messerschmitt Foundation as D-FMBD.
