Zürich's airport at Dübendorf in 1935, with the tail of Swissair's first DC-2, HB-ITI, on the left. D-AXUT built in 1934. To Iberia in 1938 as M-CABO. Later EC-AAG, crashed in Morocco in 1944. Ju 52 D-ADEF Adolf Schirmer (c/n 4070) built in 1935. Used by Nazi bigwig Julius Streicher for some time. To Luftwaffe in August 1939. Blown up by German troops in Ukraine in 1944, then administratively bought from DLH for one Reichsmark. Fokker F.VIIb-3m I-AAXZ built by Meridionali in Naples for ALI in 1931. Crashed in 1936, presumably near Turin on 15 April. Photo from: ETH-Bibliothek Zürich

The Junkers from Nazi Germany is parked between KLM's Fokker F.XXXVI PH-AJA Arend and DC-2 PH-ALD Djalak. The other Ju 52 is probably of ABA. D-ASIH crashed in the French Alps on 3 December 1936 coming from Lisbon. All six occupants died. It was on a non-scheduled passenger flight and interestingly ju52archiv.de indicates that D-ASIH served with the Regierungsstaffel (government flight) for some time at least. Delivery of Aero O/Y's second Ju 52 - OH-ALK was already put in service during 1932. These aircraft operated on floats in summer until the opening of Malmi airport in 1938. In peacetime after the Winter War on 14 June 1940, operating Aero O/Y flight 1631 from Tallinn, Kaleva was shot down by two Soviet DB-3 bombers during Soviet preparations to occupy Latvia. All nine people on board, including diplomatic couriers, were killed. This is said to have been the first commercial airliner shootdown by fighter aircraft in history. In a new hangar at Malmi with a Polish L-10A Electra and Aero O/Y Ju 52 OH-ALL. The airport was inaugurated in May 1938 but was finished much earlier. D-AHUS was built for Lufthansa in 1934. It served with Deruluft from March 1935 until the end of 1936 as D-AHUS Milan. It was leased to the Luftwaffe in August 1939, and returned to Lufthansa in September 1944 according to the records! This Tante Ju was built in 1939 and TOC with the Swiss AF A-703. In October 1982 it was registered HB-HOP and then spent the next years operating pleasure flights for Ju-Air. After the tragic crash of sister-ship HB-HOT in 2018 the operating and maintenance licences were revoked for other Swiss-based Ju 52 aircraft. This effectively grounded HB-HOP (and another Ju-Air Ju-52 HB-HOS) and so the plane is now retired and on display at this superb museum.
