Starting its ascent at Balloon Mela '85 at Safdarjung Airport before Pres. Zail Singh, French balloonist G. de Colonne who participated in the World Championships in 1983 at Nantes takes the Canson balloon on its course. Sponsored by the paper mill Canson & Montgolfier, it was the latter family that built the first hot-air balloon in 1783. Interesting to think of the 200-year connection with flight by the Montgolfier brothers, even performing before King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette.
