Arado-Flugzeugwerke GmbH is marked as the aircraft holder in small print above the aircraft weights. D-ODGY is c/n 2055 according to researcher Volker Koos. Other sources have D-ODGY as the V3 prototype, but that was D-ONAO (c/n 948) according to Mr Koos. Photo from: Finnish Heritage Agency

The Arado Ar 95 was rejected as a shipborne scout for Germany's warships. Despite this registration, it was probably a much better aircraft than the Heinkel He 114 which turned out to be a failure. The Ar 95 was offered for export, but this demonstration in Norway did not yield an order. Meanwhile the lighter, faster Ar 196 monoplane was selected by the Luftwaffe for the embarked scout role - a questionable decision because in this role, robustness and seaworthiness were far more important than performance.
