Built in 1916 by Frederick Sage & Co from Peterborough, England, the Sage Type 2 first flew on 10th August 1916 and although initially test results were good the aircraft crashed on 20th September 1916 at Cranwell airfield and was never developed further. The pilot and gunner sat in an enclosed cabin with a hole in the upper wing above the gunner's seat allowing him to stand with his head and shoulders above the wing.
