N51706 (previously registered as NC51706) Langley Aviation Corporation Model 2-4-90 twin-engine utility aircraft. First flown in 1940 and originally to the USN as XNL-1 (39056) but sold as war surplus due to a lack of materials for production. This aircraft was landing in Oklahoma in 1965 and after touch down damaged the fuselage beyond economical repair; its remains, along with parts of a Stinson Voyager, were rebuilt into an experimental aircraft and renamed Pierce Arrow [N6622A] and registered in 1966. Scanned from an original Howard Levy (New York) from my collection, actual date not known

Royal Aircraft Factory S.E. 2a see here at Farnborough in late 1914 early 1915 showing the tail code of 609. The SE 2a evolved from the B.S. 1 which crashed on 27th March 1914 due to the design of the small rudder injuring Geoffrey de Havilland the pilot. The aircraft was rebuilt with triangular fins and a larger rudder, it was initially designated B.S. 2 but it was soon redesignated S.E. 2. The aircraft was again rebuilt in April 1914 under the supervision of Henry Folland and became S.E. 2a. The aircraft saw service in WW1 with number 5 Sqn and 3 Sqn. From my collection.

The Gloster F.5/34 was a British fighter of the 1930's, it was Gloster's first land monoplane. The prototype began trials in 1937. The first public appearance took place at the 1938 Hendon Air Show. By the time that the Gloster fighter made its debut, the Hurricane had entered service and the Spitfire had reached production, and further development of the Mercury-engine monoplane was not pursued. The only 2 prototypes K5604 (pictured) and K8089 were relegated to experimental flying and finally as instructional airframes until May 1941. Scanned from an original 1958 RAF press photograph.

O2U-2 serial number 303 was Initially commissioned in May 1934, however in 1936 the U.S. Coast Guard adopted a new serial number system, consisting of the letter "V" followed by a three-digit number and this aircraft became V119. The "19" indicated that this was the 19th aircraft acquired by the USCG. This aircraft saw service until April 1937. Scanned from an original reproduced USCG photograph dated 1st July 1956, from my collection, photographer unknown.
