The Vickers 253 was designed to meet an RAF requirement for a general purposes aircraft to replace the Wapiti. It won the contest and 150 were ordered. When Vickers demonstrated the Wellesley, which it had developed privately to the same specification, the RAF switched the order to the monoplane. K2771 was used as a engine test bed before being donated to the Air Training Corps with serial 2574M. Fate then unknown. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand
