This Ka-26 was DDR-SPJ in its Interflug days. Now one of the three exhinits on display at this museum commemorating the work of this early German powered flight pioneer.

This is a composite Cmelak that also contains parts from DM/DDR-SQL (cn 09-08) and DM/DDR-SQM (cn 10-16) plus one wing of D-EOYX.

This Il-18 was built in September 1962 and deivered to the East German AF as '499' (with radio callsign DM-VAY). It transferred to Interflug in June 1964 as DM-STE and was later re-registered DDR-STE. The plane was retired on 1st November 1989 and on the 16th it made its 20, 504th landing on the 800 m long grass runway at Borkheide. In total the plane has covered some 16.5 million km and spent 34,627 h in the air. It is now on display at this museum commemorating the work of this early German powered flight pioneer.

Withdrawn November 1989 and flown to Borkheide as centerpiece for the Hans Grade Museum. The aircraft actually landed within the forest clearing visible in the background.
