Two seconds earlier, the serial and code were totally unreadable - that is what the Have Glass surface coating does. Possibly on loan here to the Texax ANG, this Viper started its career in Europe, first at Torrejón and later Spangdahlem. Red tailband for the Tuskegee Airmen heritage of the 100th FS.

Although still carrying the markings of the 100th Fighter Squadron "Red Tails" of the Alabama ANG, the F-16 was assigned to the 120th FS of the Colorado ANG. The 100th FS was one of the Tuskegee Airmen squadrons during World War II, activated on 19 February 1942 at Tuskegee Army Air Field (AL). It was returned to duty in 2007 as a replacement of the Alabama ANG 160th FS so the state could honor the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. This F-16 was retired by the 100th during the squadrons transition to F-35A. It was just assigned to the 120th and not repainted when deployed for Air Defender 2023.

Operated by 120th FS/CoANG, still in its former markings of the 100th FS which is converting to the F-35A. A very welcome last opportunity to take a picture of an F-16C in full Alabama ANG markings!

Still in it's Alabama ANG colours this Viper is now with the South Dakota Air National Guard's 175 FS "Lobos".

A AL ANG F-16C lands at Hill AFB after flying a WSEP-West sortie in August 2022. This F-16C was on loan to the AATC in Tucson, AZ.

This photo was taken the day after the accident. The mishap occurred on landing, the a/c being number two in a two ship formation. Damage was such that it was retired to AMARC at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ. in 2012. Not the type of publicity the USAF expected at EAA Airventure!
