Only two KAT-1 trainers were apparently built and both are framed here with Fuji KM JA3122 in the foreground, presumably at Miyazaki. The KAT-1 was designed as a military trainer, but the Fuji-built Beech T-34 was preferred. The first prototype JA3084, in the background, was tested by the Japanese army. Both KAT-1s deleted from the register as 'obsolete' in 1962 and both listed as having gone to the Kakamigahara museum in Gifu. The KAL-2 was a cabin variant of the KAT-1, not to be confused with the KAL-1, an earlier taildragger type. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

From the Beech T-34 Mentor, Fuji developed the four-seat LM-1 and LM-2 Nikko four-seat liaison aircraft, the KM civilian four-seater and the KM-2 military trainer with two seats side by side. The KM was used by the Civil Aviation College but we gather there were only two four-seat KMs: one XKM and one KM-1. JA3122 registered to the school on 3 March 1959. Destroyed in crash on take-off from Miyazaki on 4 September 1963. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
