While assigned to VF-154 she made a overweight landing aboard USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) on March 25th, 1983. During post-landing inspection cracks were detected, and she was stricken from service. She ended up at NAS Barbers Point for display, and moved in 1999 to the museum where she was painted in colors of VMFA-232

At the time, this DC-8-62 "combi" was preserved at the Naval Air Museum Barbers Point near the southwestern corner of Oahu. In this configuration, the aircraft has a large cargo section up front and a smaller passenger compartment with six rows of seats in back. Sadly, the museum closed in 2020.

Decommissioned and preserved at the now-closed Naval Air Museum Barbers Point, this aircraft still bears the commemorative logo of VP-6 "Blue Sharks" on its tail, a retro paint scheme that was applied for the Centennial of Naval Aviation.
