Sea Dart on display at Florida Air Museum. Designed as a supersonic seaplane, XF2Y-1 prototype BuNo 137634 first flew on 14 Jan 1953. The XF2Y-1 had a watertight hull built on a centreline V-shaped keel and a 60 deg delta wing with the trailing edge touching the water. Underpowered by twin 15 kN J34-WE-32 turbojets, the XF2Y-1 was superseded by the YF2Y-1 with 27 kN J46-WE-12 afterburning engines. Two retractable hydroskis and a partly retractable single hydroski were tried, resulting in ski-pounding and porpoising respectively. YF2Y-1 BuNo 135762 exceeded Mach 1 in 1954 in a shallow dive.

The date of the picture in unknown. The museum clodes in 1981 and the aircraft moved out in 1983. The picture date probably from the final years of the aircraft at this location.

The Sea Dart was re-designated the YF-7A, but the type did not reach operational service. This is the real 135763. The one on display at the Florida Air Museum, painted with the same serial until at least 2010, is in fact 135765. By 2013 that error had been corrected.

The second of four Sea Darts to be completed and the last of the two which flew in 1953/54. Single-seat delta-wing Jet-powered Flying boat fighter taking off and landing on twin hydroskis. Retired in 1957 and planned production of other examples was cancelled.

This Sea Dart has been part of the Florida Air Museum collcetion since the late 1980s. Until at least january 2010 it was displayed here marked with the incorrect serial 135763 (which is on display at the San Diego Air and Space Museum). That error had been corrected by May 2013, and it is seen here correctly marked as 135765.

This aircraft is in fact 135765, but at the time it was still incorrectly marked as 135763. This error was later corrected. The real 135763 also still survives, at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
