Alternative view of the only surviving example of this trimotor

The G.212 was an enlarged development of Fiat's G.12 but not flying until 1947, only 19 were built, 11 for the Italian AF and eight for airlines in Italy, Egypt and France. Two of the AMI's aircraft, including the museum's example, were converted as G.212 AV (Aula Volante) flying classrooms. The codes are those of 142a Squadriglia Centro Soccorso.

It is just too big to make good complete pictures of this huge aircraft.

The G.212 - the last trimotor before the trijets. I-ELCE crashed into the embankment of the Basilica of Superga church on a hill outside Turin on 4 May 1949. On board was Torino FC, returning from a match in Lisbon. All four crew and 31 passengers were killed, including 18 players. Torino were the top Italian side of the era, and largely made up the Italian national team. The only Fiat trimotor still in existence has undergone a thorough restoration at the museum. Ground handling used to be a challenge due to the restricted view over the nose but it had a range of 3000km and service ceiling of 7500m (24600ft).

This late-1940s design was used as an airliner for 32 passengers, a freighter and a military navigation trainer. The sole remaining example is of the latter type, dubbed 'Aula Volante' (Flying Classroom), hence the designation. It wears the original codes of the 142a Squadriglia Centro Soccorso (142nd Rescue Center Squadron).
