The S (Superiore) variant of the Ba.15 was aerodynamically refined and first flew in October 1929 according to a German source. The engine was often a seven-cilinder Walter Venus radial but here it is a nine-cilinder Walter NZ-120. Italian air force photo. Photo from: Dan Shumaker collection

The Ba.15 two-seater first flew in 1928 and some 340 examples were built through 1933, with a substantial number going to the Italian air force as trainers and liaison aircraft. Various engines were fitted. The identity of this De Havilland Gipsy I-powered airframe is unknown.

Flying his Walter Venus-powered Ba.15, Jean Pierroz from Lausanne came 14th overall in the 1930 European Challenge for touring aircraft. Seen on the right here in an airship shed is a Spanish DH.60G Moth, M-CKAA / T5, and on the left a Spartan Arrow, G-AAWZ / K4.
