The Short Bomber was a landplane development of the Short 184. Over 80 Bombers were built, including a few by the Phoenix Dynamo Manufacturing Company of Bradford. The type served both in the RNAS and RFC. This airframe has an N for 'number' in front of the serial but it is RFC 9834.

The Short Bomber had a production run of 83 aircraft for both the RFC and the RNAS. The tiny aircraft parked in front of 9340 is the Port Victoria P.V.8 N540, developed from the P.V.7. Both were intended as ship-launched fighters specifically to bring down Zeppelins. As the Zeppelin danger ended, so did the need for the P.V.8. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand
