Gallaudet D-2 was powered by two 150hp engines buried in the fuselage and driving a propeller that turned between the cockpits and tail with only the blades exposed. Larger versions, the D-3 and D-4, were built. Fatal test flight accidents ended the concept. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland
