Designed by H. P. Folland the Royal Aircraft Factory Scout S.E.4 was completed in June 1914 at Farnborough, Hampshire, England and first flown by Lt Norman Spratt. The first version seen here shows the original inverted pyramid of struts to which the extremely narrow-track undercarriage was attached. Development of the S.E.4 was finally ceased when it was badly damaged following a wheel collapse while landing and never rebuilt. Scanned from an original (republished) photograph by the Real Photographic Company, Liverpool. From my collection, photographer unknown.
