Taken on strength October 24, 1956, this was one of six Navy Otters sent to Antarctica in 1957. It was the high time aircraft when returned to the USA in 1956 and overhauled. The next 5 years were spent at the Naval Air Test Centre at Patuxent River NAS, Maryland. Various other assignments across the USA until it was retired at Pensacola NAS in September 1975. Joining the Naval Aviation Museum as an outdoor exhibit, the aircraft was damaged when Hurricane Ivan passed through Pensacola in September 2004. Repaired and returned to display it was moved indoors in 2010. This photo is copyright © Gary Vincent, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
