Originally a 340 built for United Airlines in 1952, this Convair was sold in 1959 and converted to Napier Eland powered 540 standard and delivered to Allegheny Airlines in September 1960. After development and support for the Eland engine was dropped by Rolls Royce after taking over Napier, the airliner was converted to a Convair 580 in 1965. Pictured here with Tempus Air just before restructuring by new owners into Canair Cargo. The freighter was sold to World Aviation Services in 1999, stored at Opa Locka, FL and later scrapped there.
