An overview of colour schemes in the WW2 era: Me-109 in the back wear the early markings with large serial and roundels. When war was eminent the aircraft received smaller serial, red rudder and a red fuselage band in April 1940, as seen on the C-3603. As American pilots often did not recognize Swiss over German aircraft the 'Neutralitätsanstrich'(neutrality colours) were introduced in September 1944 with red and white stripes and a white cowling. The D-3801 and Bu-181 sport these colours. This photo is copyright © Joop de Groot, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
