In 1988 this Vampire was withdrawn from service and in 1992 it was put on a pole in front of the Dubendorf museum. To avoid deterioration it did receive a polyester fuselage pod. When the Flieger Flab Museum was just the Fliegermuseum, according to the sign underneath the aircraft. Photo by P. Frei

This Tante Ju was built in 1939 and TOC with the Swiss AF A-703. In October 1982 it was registered HB-HOP and then spent the next years operating pleasure flights for Ju-Air. After the tragic crash of sister-ship HB-HOT in 2018 the operating and maintenance licences were revoked for other Swiss-based Ju 52 aircraft. This effectively grounded HB-HOP (and another Ju-Air Ju-52 HB-HOS) and so the plane is now retired and on display at this superb museum.

This P-51 was flown by the USAF as 44-73349 but became surplus at the end of WWII. In November 1948 this plane, along with 129 others were delivered to the Swiss AF. In April 1958, J-2113 was struck-off and allocated for preservation, unfortunately, all the other P-51s were scrapped. This frame was originally at Dübendorf but was loaned to the Verkehrshaus der Schweiz in Lucerne in 1975, returning in 1987.

The EFW N-20 Aiguillon (Stinger) was Switzerland's first indigenous jet fighter aircraft with the Armstrong Siddeley Mamba turboprop chosen as the basis for the N-20's engines. The converted powerplant was named Swiss Mamba SM-1 but only six engines were built (four fitted to the N-20 with two spares). The prototype was completed in 1952 and flew briefly during a taxi test in April 1952 but development of the engine and the N-20 aircraft was cancelled soon afterwards. This is a rearward view illustrating the nice lines of the protoype, which is now on display at this wonderful museum.

An overview of colour schemes in the WW2 era: Me-109 in the back wear the early markings with large serial and roundels. When war was eminent the aircraft received smaller serial, red rudder and a red fuselage band in April 1940, as seen on the C-3603. As American pilots often did not recognize Swiss over German aircraft the 'Neutralitätsanstrich'(neutrality colours) were introduced in September 1944 with red and white stripes and a white cowling. The D-3801 and Bu-181 sport these colours.
