Unmarked, ex Swiss Air Force J-277, later stored at Dugny. This aircraft was apparently used as the pattern prototype for the Swiss EKW D-3801 licence-built derivative.

An overview of colour schemes in the WW2 era: Me-109 in the back wear the early markings with large serial and roundels. When war was eminent the aircraft received smaller serial, red rudder and a red fuselage band in April 1940, as seen on the C-3603. As American pilots often did not recognize Swiss over German aircraft the 'Neutralitätsanstrich'(neutrality colours) were introduced in September 1944 with red and white stripes and a white cowling. The D-3801 and Bu-181 sport these colours.

The Dewoitine company went bankrupt in January 1927 and Émile Dewoitine temporarily moved to Switzerland where EKW continued development of the new D.27 fighter. Ten D.21s ordered by Argentina and Czechoslovakia were also built by the Swiss state factory, the D.21 being a variant of the D.1. Swiss-built version of the MS.406 series built by EKW at Emmen. The type flew on second line duties until 1954.

Swiss-built D-3801 version of the basic MS-412, ex Swiss AF J-277. Exhibited at the Musee de l'Air at Le Bourget wearing the markings of the Armee de l'Air.

The Morane-Saulnier MS.412, produced only in Switzerland as the D-3801, was an uprated version of France's workmanlike MS.406 fighter.
