Wenela Air Services started life as Africair and was set up to transport migrant mine workers to the gold mines of the (then) Transvaal in South Africa. WNLA (pronounced Wenela) was the Witwatersrand Native Labour Association. The airline operated from 1952 to the mid 1970s. First delivered to the USAAF as 46-17166 in September 1944, to American Airlines as N90420 in November 1945, then Slick Airways; American International; California Hawaiian before joining Wenela as ZS-EKJ, VP-YUU, and A2-ZEQ. Sold as 9Q-CAQ around 1977/78 reprted operating for AMAZ, Transair Cargo, and Kinair before broken up at Kinsasha ca 1981. The exact dates are sketchy.
