A Walrus is being hoisted aboard in Gibraltar. Its ship may be HMS Cornwall, although the cruiser is reported to have been in St Tropez on the given date! If it is indeed Cornwall's aircraft, the fuselage band should be pale blue. The ship with four funnels in the background is a US Navy destroyer, which seems quite odd here in 1938. However, USS Manley (DD-74) was indeed around to protect American interests during the Spanish Civil War. This photo was added on 30 April 2021, and has since been viewed 1454 times. |
