The dam was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 17 May 1960. The flag on the car is her personal standard. First flown at Hurn 14 October 1958, delivered to SAA as ZS-CDU 28 October. Ca 1962 repainted in the first orange tail livery first introduced with the 707s in 1960.
