During the late 1950s, the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland started the construction of the Kariba Dam to build power stations to support the infrastructure of what today is Zambia and Zimbabwe. The dam was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 17 May 1960. The flag on the car is her personal standard. First flown at Hurn 14 October 1958, delivered to SAA as ZS-CDU 28 October. Ca 1962 repainted in the first orange tail livery first introduced with the 707s in 1960. September 1971 retired and stored at JNB. To British Midland January 1972 as G-AZLR, leased to Cyprus Airways 1975. Retired June 1982 at EMA where it became a fire trainer, scrapped by 1997.
