G-AZLR was the former ZS-CDU of South African Airways and was one of seven SAA Viscounts, plus spares, acquired by BMA in 1971 for the bargain price of £98,000 for the Viscounts and £37,000 for the spares. The airline got good use out of these aircraft, although G-AZLR was retired from flying in 1982 and put into use as a cabin services trainer at East Midlands It was later transferred to the airport's Fire Service before finally scrapping in 1997.
