On display at Musée de l'Air at Le Bourget. Resembling the Mirage III, this aircraft was a pre-production model that was used for flight tests from 12 Oct 61 till the first Mirage IVAs achieved operational status in Oct 64. The Mirage IVA was the only European military aircraft in 1964 that was capable of sustained flight at Mach 2. The Force de Frappe had nine dispersed Mirage IVA squadrons. A total of 62 aircraft were built, of which the bomber variant was retired in 1996 and the recce ones in 2005.
