This aircraft was built in 1944 as a paratroop transport although its precise service history in the Luftwaffe is unclear. At the end of the war it was earmarked for a private collection in the US but came close to being scrapped before the Air Historical Branch selected it for preservation. Some restoration work was carried out at St. Athan where she was allocated the RAF Maintenance Serial 8471M before arriving at the RAF Museum in 1978. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
