Built as 42-56036, this Lodestar was one of twelve allocated to Canadian Pacific Airlines (CF-CPG) by the US Joint Chiefs of Staff via Air Transport Command in World War II. In the fleet 1944 - 50, it became N4851V with Babb Co and later Bethlehem Steel. Converted to a Dallaero Lodestar in the late 50s to early 60s, it was registered N1940S in 1964.
