On display in the Great Gallery at the Museum of Flight in the markings of the 389th TFS, 366th TFW based at Da Nang AB in Vietnam. The wing earned the nickname "Gunfighters" after successfully modifying the 20mm SUU-16 Gatling gun pod to the centreline of its Phantoms on the insistence of Korean War ace Frederick "Boots" Blesse. Using this interim solution, Speedo flight scored the first ever F-4 gun victories against two NVAF MiG-17s on 14 May 1967, leading to 8th TFW adopting the gun pod. This Phantom is credited with three MiG-21 kills in 1967 while serving with 389th TFS. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
