Delivered to the Venda Defence Force as VDF-040 in 1988. Has also been reported as VDF-030. Transferred to South Africa as 8020 in 1994. Venda was a Bantustan in Northern South Africa. It is now part of the Limpopo province. It was founded as a homeland by the South African government for the Venda people in 1979. The United Nations and international community refused to recognise Venda (or any other Bantustan) as an independent state. It was re-incorporated into South Africa in 1994.
