Photographed undergoing completion at the MBB Helicopter Canada facility in Fort Erie, Ontario. The helicopter was registered as D-HBCA for initial testing then first flown as C-FIOM in 1989 (after Imperial Oil retired their Grumman G-159, C-FIOM). Between June 1991 and May 1992, the BK117 was leased to the Canadian Armed Forces as 143106 to flight test systems developed for the New Shipborne Aircraft (NSA) by Honeywell Canada. In the Spring of 1992 it was leased to Heliflyg in Sweden as SE-JBK for HEMS trials before returning to Canada as C-FIOM to join STARS in June 1993. This photo is copyright © Kenneth I.
