Attached to the Torpedo Development Unit at the time of the photo. P1272 was transferred to 14 OTU which trained night bomber crews before being reassigned to 455 Sqn RAAF. It was lost during a raid on Hamburg on December 1, 1941. Ironically, a few months later 455 was moved from Bomber Command to Coastal Command where it became a torpedo bomber squadron. Beaufighters finally replaced the obsolete Hampdens in October 1943. Photo from: Imperial War Museums This photo was added on 23 December 2024, and has since been viewed 179 times. |
