Zambian Airways traced its roots to Mines Air Services established in 1948 as a subsidiary of Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines. Changing its name to Roan Air in the 1980s, the airline was privatised in 1998 and started operating domestic and regional services with Boeing 737s and Raytheon 1900Ds. The airline ceased trading in 2009. This 1900D first flew as N23047 April 1998, to 9J-MAS August 1998, then ZS-DHB with National Airways Corp Jan 2009, Rotate Aviation as OY-CHU Jan 2010, and finally Chalair as F-HBCE Feb 2009.
