Historical Flight Foundation aircraft, permanently grounded after a No. 3 engine failure on 18 November 2011 which was too costly and uneconomic to remedy. It was placed in the care of the Carolinas Aviation Museum in December 2011, and was still on display there by 2022.

This cockpit section on display at the Carolinas Aviation Museum is used as a hand-on exhibit where people can clamber in and imagine, for a few precious seconds at least, to be a F-4 pilot.

The P-80 was developed in an astounding 143 days and was the first jet fighter to be used by the USAF. However the lack of a swept wing meant it was rapidly switched to ground attack and air-to-air missions. TO-1 was the initial Navy designation for the P-80C, of which 16 were delivered to the Marines. In 1950 it was redesignated to TV-1. This example has completed her restoration and is now on display at the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

This 'Miracle on the Hudson' plane is now the focal point of the Carolinas Aviation Museum. Note the damage to the rear lower fuselage where it impacted the river and also that the engine pylon has been bent upwards. As one can readily understand it was a truly awe-inspiring exhibit!

This F-4 is now on display inside the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

This A-7 is now on display inside the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

Although the Bell X-1 has taken all the glory other aircraft were used in the transonic test program. This Skystreak (ex BuNo 37972, the third and last built) flew 78 missions for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics accummulating lots of invaluable flight test data near the speed of sound. This one of only two that survive and is on display at the very interesting Carolinas Aviation Museum.
