Developed from the Bristol 118 general-purpose military aircraft, the Type 120 featured an enclosed, rotating turret for the observer/gunner. First flown from Filton on 29 January 1932 with the test registration R-6, the prototype was evaluated by the RAF at Martlesham Heath later in the year as K3587. VH-UMG over the beach at St Kilda. The aircraft crashed in November 21, 1936, at Mascot airport, now Sydney Kingsford Smith International. Famed pilot Charles Kingsford Smith owned VH-UMG at the time of the photo.
