The first DC-2 for Czechoslovak airline ČLS, photographed on its day of acceptance. Flown to New York, shipped to Cherbourg and reassembled at Querqueville airfield by Fokker technicians. Crews were trained by KLM. On 20 April 1936, OK-AIA flew the first commercial service by a ČLS DC-2 from Prague to Vienna and back, and then departed to Amsterdam in the late afternoon. This schedule was perhaps too optimistic and a broken radio, low fuel and upcoming darkness caused the captain to come down in a wheat field near Doornspijk, Netherlands. The brand new DC-2 was a write-off. Photo from: Douglas

On 29 September 2022, SOFIA flew her last mission as the programme was deemed too expensive for its science productivity. On the following 13 December, the 'special Special Performance 747' was ferried from Palmdale (CA) via flypasts at Edwards AFB to Davis-Monthan. The aircraft had originally been delivered to Pan Am in May 1977, flew with United as N145UA starting February 1986 and went to NASA in April 2005.

Initially preserved at Homestead AFB (FL) in the 1990s as '60441' with local tailcode FM and moved to Pima as such in 2001. Beautifully repainted in 2012 into the livery of its first unit, the 425th TFTS at Williams AFB (AZ), but without the wing badge. Delivered in November 1972, this was a trainer notably for South Vietnamese pilots at the time.

Built as a HH-53C and over the years converted to HH-53H, MH-53J and the highly capable MH-53M Pave Low IV version. Has a turbulent history including recovery of Jonestown Massacre victims in 1978, Desert Storm operations in 1991 and the first ever night landing at Buckingham Palace, in 2003 supporting the Bush visit as a 21st SOS machine from Mildenhall. Retired by the 20st SOS in 2008 and on loan here from the USAF Museum since 2010. The nose art above the name features Marvin the Martian firing a machine gun, with 'Desert Storm 1991' written in all-capitals on the same panel.

On static display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. With no flaps, retractable landing gear or a variable pitch propeller, these simple aircraft helped train thousands of USAAF and USN pilots in World War II. The PT-17 was powered by a Continental R-670 engine.

On static display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. With no flaps, retractable landing gear or a variable pitch propeller, these simple aircraft helped train thousands of USAAF and USN pilots in World War II. The PT-17 was powered by a Continental R-670 engine.

A Garrett TPE331 turbo conversion conceived by the US Fish & Wildlife Service office at Anchorage as a long-range survey aircraft, a 40 inch fuselage extension allowed two extra seats in the cockpit. The aircraft was re-registered as N92MT in October 1993, exported to Chile as CC-CTG in September 1994, reverted to N92MT in May 1995, changed to N86MT in January 1996, and finally re-registered as N221AG in June 2001. Sadly it was destroyed on 27th February 2011 when it crashed on take-off from Al Ain International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. Note F&WS Goose N789 in the background.

Only extant Seiran (Clear Sky Storm) on display at Udvar-Hazy Center. This is the last of 28 built that was ferried by Lt. Kazuo Akatsuka to Yokosuka and surrendered in 1945. Designed by Toshio Ozaki who planned the B7A Ryūsei, the floatplane was powered by a 12-cyl liquid-cooled 1,400 hp Atsuta 32 engine that was a licence-built DB601A. These aircraft of 631 Kokutai were to be launched via catapult from 122 m I-400-class submarines capable of carrying three Seirans. Operations were planned to bomb Panama Canal, the US fleet at Ulithi Atoll and US cities, forestalled by the end of the war.
