Replica inside the hangar at IWM Duxford. The original X4178 was first flown on 12 Aug 1940. It was delivered to No. 41 Sqn in the same month. The Spitfire was damaged in combat during the Battle of Britain on 17 Sep 1940. Lasting less than two months with the unit, it was shot down by a Bf-109 on 15 Oct 40, killing Sgt PD Lloyd.

This replica is on loan from the Imperial War Museum to the RAF. It has been refurbished from a Mk 4 to Mk1 and represents an aircraft of 41 (F) Squadron of about 1940. The original aircraft was shot down by an Me Bf-109 on 15th October 1940
