On display at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, National Air and Space Museum. Intended to be an aerial "Model T" that could also be driven on the road, the price tag of $ 12,500 was too high for the average family. Only one AC-35 was built.

With "Department of Commerce" badge on rear fuselage. On 2nd October 1936, test pilot James G. Ray landed the AC-35 in a downtown park in Washington DC where it went on display. Later that month the aircraft was converted to drivable configuration by folding back the rotor blades over the fuselage, the propeller disengaged, the tailwheel put in gear and the front wheels used for steering. Ray then drove it through Washington to much acclaim to be handed over to the Aeronautics Branch at the main entrance of the Commerce Building.

Hurricane Hunter of the past. This DC-6A was originally delivered to Trans Caribbean in late 1957, and purchased by the Dept. of Commerce in 1960.

Hurricane Hunter of the past. This B-57A, ex USAF 52-1419, was one of the development aircraft, and was acquired by NOAA for storm tracking and research. Seen parked at the George T. Baker Aviation School.

Named "NOAA's Ark" by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this C-130B was first delivered to the USAF as 58-0731 in 1959, being converted to WC-130B for the weather service in 1970. Reverted to USAF operation as a C-130B in 1982 and sold to South Africa in 1996, where she flew with 28 Sqn as 408 till around 2009

Heading out on another hurricane hunting mission, the modifications to this 1957-vintage DC-6 are clearly apparent here. Acquired in 1960 from Trans Caribbean, she was sold to Bellomy-Lawson six months after this shot and modified back to normal configuration. Painted in Challenge AT colours in 1979 and re-registered N98BL in 1983. Broken up at MIA in 1993 after a couple of years in storage

Built as RB-57A 52-1419 for the USAF. Later modified to WB-57A for hurricane chasing for the NOAA.
